    • Saturday’s League One double

The Premier League and Championship may have each been forced to take a break in October, but all of England’s lower leagues will take center stage this weekend.

Only a few points separate the teams from being eliminated at the top of Ligue 1, with seven games in the third division to be played on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of a frenetic weekend of Ligue 1 fixtures, here are some of the most attractive betting tips available.

14:00 Northampton Town vs Rotherham United

Northampton may have just clung to League One status last season and just reached the bottom line, but Kevin Nolan’s side have made a series of improvements this time around. Despite still sitting in the bottom half of the table going into Saturday’s opening game, the Cobblers have enjoyed a prolonged period of turmoil. Having secured back-to-back EFL Trophy wins with a 1-0 win away at Walsall earlier in the week, the former West Ham manager will find the atmosphere in camp at a peak. Northampton ended September with a 2-0 win at home to Bolton and now have 10 points in all competitions from their last four appearances. Nolan’s team sensed a chance to quickly rise to the top half here, but their only loss in their last eight games has been a streak that stretches back to August 19th. It’s also worth highlighting that the Ligue 1 high flyer hasn’t conceded a single strike in over 370 minutes of play.

Rotherham will be desperate to build on that performance after clinching the vital EFL Trophy with a convincing 3-2 home win over Oldham in midweek. But despite opening the 2025/26 season with the aim of securing a serious play-off place, Matt Hamshaw’s side have found themselves at the center of a national struggle. In fact, Saturday’s guest has only scored one point in his last four League One appearances. The Yorkshire-based side were in the relegation zone going into this weekend’s game after ending September with a 2-1 defeat away to Mansfield. The former Derby manager has now scored two strikes in each of his last three games across all competitions, but his underdog side have won just two of their last 13 games inside 90 minutes. Similarly, Rotherham, who have a reputation for obvious problems away from home, have lost their last seven away games at the New York Stadium, all by an aggregate score of 11-3.

15:00 Stockport County vs Blackpool

Ending the 2024/25 campaign in the midst of a sensational purple patch, Stockport have largely continued on from where they left off before the summer break. Last seen in League One with a superb performance away to Huddersfield in a 2-1 win, Saturday’s hosts now have their sights firmly set on a surge towards the play-off places. Dave Challiner’s side have picked up seven points from their last three League One games, including a 1-0 win at Rotherham on September 20. In fact, the Hatters have suffered the only loss in each of their last seven three-tier showdowns. Stockport will also be thrilled with their long-term success at Edgeley Road, although Saturday’s clash goes ahead with them just outside the play-offs on just goal difference. Despite their record-breaking run, the Blues suffered their only defeat in front of their own fans since early January.

Blackpool has understandably come under intense scrutiny, having endured what has become a public nightmare since the new campaign began. With just eight points in League One so far this season, the Seasiders appear to have an almighty fight on their hands. Saturday’s guests have also collected just one win in their last eight successive League One appearances, while dealing with some serious issues behind the scenes at Bloomfield Road. It should also be emphasized that the Lancashire-based team has also gained a lot of unwanted publicity for their struggles on the road. Blackpool have lost their last five away games at Bloomfield Road by a combined score of 9-1, including a 4-1 win over Exeter on August 9. Similarly, they last traveled to Stockport on March 1, losing 2-1, and have lost three of their last four play-off meetings with the Dreamers.
