It was a week for Manchester United’s No. 9 Rasmus Hozilund. You wait very long for the finish line and the two of you will soon come in succession.
The Danish speedster had endured the disastrous goal drought of a 21-game drought before returning to the scoresheet again on Sunday evening at Leicester City.
A few days after her long-awaited goal, the 22-year-old jumped off the bench Thursday night to determine her country’s victory over Portugal.
The club and country’s nine goal return this season will be a tough read for the £64 million signature, but he helped put pressure on his shoulders this week with Chido Obi, the 17-year-old sensation.
This youthful pairing is currently fighting from the middle to be Reuben Amorim’s main man. There is no doubt that the Portuguese coach is trying to find the next talisman in Victor Gyoker’s sports model.
Man Utd’s interest in Viktor Gyoker
There is arguing that Amorim has found his new attack, Gyoker-like figure in the form of Bruno Fernandez, but for the brilliance of all the playmakers, United must acquire a reliable prolific presence to lead the line.
In fact, Hodglund has scored just 24 goals in 82 games for the Red Devils so far, but the younger Obi is still waiting to beat the first-team duck, despite having four senior appearances. Meanwhile, he signed Joshua Girudgie in the summer, scoring just six times in his new environment.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that the new centre-forward signature looks high on the agenda. Journalist Florian Plettenberg recently named the aforementioned gyoker the raft of the target that Amorim and Co are looking at.
The Swedish goal machine has been revelation in Portugal since it arrived from the city of Coventry in 2023 for just £17 million, scoring 66 goals in just 68 games under the Amorim watch.
Naturally, there have been talk of reunion since the new United boss moved to England. However, athletics Raleigh Whitwell reported in February that the sport could be cashed for around 700 million euros (£59 million), but it was “impossible” for the 26-year-old to his former boss to follow Manchester.
According to Whitwell, former Brighton and Hove Albion guys may want to join a team competing in the Champions League – they can’t unite now – the club itself may have reservations in the pursuit of “young signatures.”
You may be unhappy about not giving Gyoker’s perfect attack tool to Amorim, but perhaps the Red Devils are already brewing the next version of the Swedes…
Man Utd’s own Gyoker
As two towering Scandinavian archers like Gyoker, both Hojlund and Obi could argue that, given time to develop, they are prepared to evolve into that type of form of Amorim.
That said, in the words of analyst Ben Matinson, the ceremony has another, more appropriate option, in the form of 19-year-old academy star Ethan Wheatley.
The promising British owns many of the “typical hold-ups, link-ups, channel running” Gyoker showed during the sport, but he is also considered “more close” by the former Coventry man than fellow youth star Gabrielebian Kaelli.
Currently, we are offering loans through League 2 High Flyers Walsall. He has actually appeared only three times since his arrival in January, but Wheatley was previously fascinated with the youth setup at United, scoring 10 times on just 22 U21 outings.
Stockport Native stands at 6 feet 2 like Gyokeres – formerly a star on the U18 side.
Although it has not been resolved so far during the temporary stint from Old Trafford in Wheatley, he was also awarded a new long-term contract with United earlier this month, facing Wales on the UK’s Under-19 side mid-week.
The club’s show of faith shows how highly acclaimed the teenagers are in Carrington, with the rising star already appearing in the first team of his parent club four times, including a slow cameo in Leicester’s 4-2 victory in the EFL Cup in October.

As Amorim has already shown an appetite to use the academy in recent weeks, amid the emergence of Obi and Harry’s accumulation, the United 250th alumni may have hopes to force his path to senior recording next season.
Who knows, Wheatley could even prove he is the next gyoker at 40 years old.
