Antonio Rudiger willing to leave Chelsea on a free next summer if contract offer doesn’t arrive

An update on Antonio Rudiger’s Chelsea contract situation has been forthcoming in the British press on Monday.

Rudiger impressing with Chelsea

Rudiger has been on Chelsea’s books since July of 2017. The German, though, has endured a fairly mixed stint during his time at Stamford Bridge.

All told, Rudiger has featured 148 times in all competitions for Chelsea, across which he has scored seven goals and provided three assists.

However, throughout much of Frank Lampard’s time at the club, Rudiger proved something of a fringe player.

During the first half of the current campaign, for example, the stopper was afforded just two Premier League appearances.

Such a lack of minutes even led to speculation that Rudiger was set for a move to PSG during the winter transfer window.

Rudiger, in the end, stayed put, but initially continued to struggle for regular Premier League action.

However, Frank Lampard was then sacked, before Thomas Tuchel took the reins at the back end of January.

And since the latter’s appointment as Chelsea boss, Rudiger has seen his game-time dramatically increase.

Rudiger could leave Chelsea for free

Despite his return to favour, though, Rudiger’s long-term future at Chelsea has remained up in the air for some time now.

This comes with the German having just over a year left on his current contract at the Bridge.

And, if he does not sign a new one, it would obviously be in Chelsea’s best interest to sell him in the summer, rather than losing him for free next year.

However, it now appears as though Rudiger’s situation at Chelsea has been clarified somewhat.

According to a report from Sky Sports on Monday afternoon, Rudiger has told Thomas Tuchel he is committed to remaining at Chelsea next season, even though the club have not yet opened talks with the him over a new contract.

It is added that the German is keen to sign a new long-term deal, but is also willing to see out the final 12 months of his deal and then leave for free if a contract offer does not arrive:
