Napoli have added Tottenham’s Ben Davies to a list of potential signings as they continue their search for a left-back, as per a report.
The Italian club are looking to strengthen the left side of their defence this summer. The Partenopei are in a transitional period following the departure of Gennaro Gattuso and the appointment of Luciano Spatelli. The left-back position has been highlighted as one of the weaker areas of the squad. As such, Spatelli has been tasked with finding someone to fill the role.
Top of their list of options is Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri. They were reported to have lodged a €15m bid for the defender earlier this month.
That fee would be a loss on the €20m sum the Blues paid for him in 2018. It would add to Thomas Tuchel’s funds as they hunt for big-money signings in the transfer market, though.
However, there have been reports that the Italian could be used in a player-plus-cash deal for Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi.
This leaves Napoli in the lurch. As such, they are assessing alternative solutions to their left-back woes.
According to Gazetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Davies is one of those included on the club’s list of targets.
What’s more, the Italian paper claim that Napoli’s director of football Cristiano Giuntoli was watching him in Italy’s win over Wales on Sunday.
Davies was only on the pitch for a number of minutes at the end of the game. Giuntoli would therefore have been unable to gain much from the scouting mission.
The report states that there has been no communication between Napoli and Tottenham as of yet.
The Italians are said to view him as an affordable option if they are unable to secure their first choice of Palmieri. The price tag they believe Davies to have is also €15m. This means they wouldn’t have to spend anymore than they already planned to.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have also been linked with signing a player from Serie A. That’s because them and Liverpool have been told that Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic has the ability to thrive in the Premier League, if he makes the move this summer.
Former Fiorentina director Pantaleo Corvino revealed that he thinks the 21-year-old would be a big hit with the Premier League duo, along with another European big-hitter in Juventus.
The Serbia international is currently contemplating whether to sign a new contract with La Viola. Recent events at the club are hardly likely to convince him, with Gattuso resigning 23 days after taking the manager’s job.
The self-professed ‘new Zlatan Ibrahimovic’ scored 21 goals in 37 games for a Fiorentina that finished down in 13th this past season.
