Mount & Chilwell to miss Czech Republic clash
The headline news surrounding the England camp over the last few days has involved two Chelsea players.
England would play Scotland this past Friday. Billy Gilmour would line out for the Scots and has since tested positive for Covid-19.
No England players have since returned a positive test. However, it was reported on Monday that Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount had begun isolating after interacting with Gilmour.
It has now been confirmed that the pair will need to isolate until next Monday:

This, of course, means they are both missing England’s meeting with the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
Cech not happy with Mount-Chilwell isolation
Perhaps more importantly though, the pair’s participation in England’s last 16 tie is now in serious doubt.
If England finish second in their group, they play a last 16 tie on Monday, which Mount and Chilwell will miss.
And even if England top their group and play the L16 game the day later, it is hard to see the players in question being able to play, as they will have spent the entire week training alone.
The pair being forced to isolate has since caused quite a stir online, especially given that no Scotland players or staff are having to isolate following Gilmour’s test.
One person to make their displeasure at the situation known is Petr Cech. The former Chelsea keeper took to Instagram to share the following message:
“Please could someone help me understand how it is possible Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell – both with negative tests – have to isolate after they got in contact with Billy Gilmour while the entire Scottish team who shared the dressing room, hotel, coach and plane while travelling, doing room and meeting room is allowed to play the game without any problem because they returned with the required negative tests?
“What is the difference between them returning the same test results? It is incomprehensible.”
