England midfielder Declan Rice is increasingly open to the idea of leaving West Ham this summer, according to reports.
Declan Rice’s West Ham stint
Despite his tender years, Declan Rice has been a mainstay in West Ham’s midfield for some time now.
All told, the 22-year-old has notched 145appearances across all competitions for the Hammers.
So impressive has Rice been off late, meanwhile, that he was actually been handed the captain’s armband by David Moyes throughout much of 2020/21.
Rice has also established himself as an integral member of Gareth Southgate’s England set-up, notching 18 appearances since his debut in March of 2019.
In turn, such clear quality and potential have inevitably seen Rice pique the attention of some of the Premier League’s heavy-hitters, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
What has David Moyes said about Rice?
David Moyes, for his part, does not seem at all keen to lose their star man ahead of next season.
After securing Europa League football last month, Moyes said this when quizzed on Rice’s future:
“I don’t think [co-owners] David Sullivan, David Gold or myself have got any intention of losing Declan Rice. We’ve just qualified for Europe, it’s a brilliant achievement. Declan has been a big part of that and we want him to be a big part of what we do next year as well.”
Rice to leave West Ham?
Now though, a fresh update on Rice’s situation has suggested that the player is becoming more open to leaving the club.
Rice’s current deal runs until 2024, with a reported option of a one-year extension.
But Euro Sport are now reporting that Rice is understood to be increasingly open to the idea of leaving West Ham this summer.
They add that Chelsea are the side most likely to lead the chase for him.
In terms of money, it is claimed the Hammers now value Rice at more than the £70m they did last year, whilst the player himself would be looking for over £150,000-a-week in wages if he moves.
