Damsgaard catches the eye
Denmark have become the neutral’s favourite side since the euros began.
The humanity on show from the Danes after Christian Eriksen’s concerning cardiac arrest resonated deeply with fans of all nations.
Last 10 minutes of this Denmark game have me in Tears of Joy. I am not Danish. Never even set foot in Denmark. But watching this team, who were forced to play in wake of Christian Eriksen’s collapse, summon the tenacity to rebound, fight and win is Sports at its very Best 🇩🇰🙌 pic.twitter.com/4Z4wknDSlm

Fortunately, Eriksen was revived, and Denmark qualified for the knockout rounds despite his absence.
Filling the Inter Milan midfielder’s shoes was always going to be a hard ask, but it is one that was tasked to Sampdoria midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard. Still only 20-years-old, Damsgaard already possesses great top level experience, having featured 35 times in the Serie A for Sampdoria in 2020/21.
His susceptibility to be used as a second-half substitute by the Italian side explains his underwhelming six goal contributions in this period, but the Dane has shown his quality across the group game opportunities that he has been afforded, and will be looking to continue his good form into the last 16 tie against Wales.

Race for his signature
In fact, Damsgaard’s performances have reportedly caught the eye of a host of clubs, according to FootballItalia.
As per the report, AC Milan, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham are all hot on the tail of the young prospect.
The President of Sampdoria, Massimo Ferrero, has already revealed that it would take 30 million euros to tempt the Italian club into selling their young star, although he continued that another goal at the tournament would raise that value to 40 million euros.
All of the interested parties will be hoping that Damsgaard fails to find the net again.
