Bachmann doubt for Vicarage Road clash

Austrian international goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann looks set to miss out on Watford‘s next Premier League fixture when Newcastle travel south to Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Wiener Neustadt-native, who featured in every single minute for Unsere Burschen at Euro2020 this past summer when Franco Foda’s outfit succumbed to eventual champions Italy in the round of 16, had started the 2021-22 domestic campaign as Xisco’s first-choice option in goal.

Bachmann helped preside over Watford’s opening weekend win against Aston Villa, and perhaps is an unfortunate casualty of the Hornet’s three-match skid where they failed to pick up a single point while being unable to find the back of the net.

After sitting on the bench in the 3-1 win against Norwich due to the current knee injury ailing him, Bachmann now faces a race against time to come back into the fold against Newcastle and is set to be assessed by the medical team.

But according to Ben Dinnery, veteran Ben Foster – now 38-years-old – is set to continue in goal for Xisco even if Bachmann is passed fit for service.

Foster has chance to go two-for-two

Despite pushing the ripe old age of forty, elder statesman Ben Foster could make it two wins in two should he expectedly get the nod on Saturday against Steve Bruce’s struggling Newcastle.

The Magpies have yet to secure a three-point haul this term and come into their away day just outside the English capital on the back of a 1-1 draw against Leeds United at St. James’ Park, while sitting in the relegation zone and the happy owners of the second-worst defensive record in the league.

Foster was voted Man of the Match in his season debut against Norwich last weekend, and should his performance level increase, Daniel Bachmann could have his hands full if he is to regain his first-choice status at Watford.
