Tottenham’s Bryan Gil earns club legend comparison following display vs Wolves

Former Tottenham star Graham Roberts appeared altogether impressed by the latest display put on by Lilywhites summer arrival Bryan Gil on Wednesday night.

Spurs march on

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were of course back in action a little less than 24 hours ago.

The North Londoners made the trip to Molineux for an EFL Cup 3rd-round clash, a return to former stomping grounds for the latest installation on the club’s bench.

Spurs entered proceedings in search of a much-needed bounce-back result, having followed up a trio of victories to open the season with successive 3-0 defeats at the hands of Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

And, when all was said and done in the West Midlands, return to winning ways is precisely what the visitors managed… just.

Tanguy Ndombele opened the scoring inside a quarter of an hour on Wednesday, before Harry Kane set up what looked set to be a comfortable evening’s work with a Tottenham 2nd ten minutes later.

Wolves, though, had other ideas.

After Leander Dendoncker pulled one back for the hosts shortly before half-time, Daniel Podence levelled things up early in the 2nd-half, to send proceedings to a penalty shootout.

But Tottenham, to their credit, regathered themselves from here, to eventually march on courtesy of a 3-2 spot-kick triumph.

‘A little superstar’

Despite their eventual advancement, however, the same old concerns were widely aired on the back of Spurs’ latest display on Wednesday.

Many of a Lilywhites persuasion have already expressed their reservations about the style of football being employed by new boss Nuno, which appears to be starving star man Harry Kane of the kind of service required to carry forth his remarkable goalscoring exploits with the club.

One of the capital outfit’s stars, though, proved something of a shining light at Molineux.

The player in question? Bryan Gil.

Spanish international Gil of course made the move to North London during the summer, since rotating in and out of Nuno’s starting line-up across league and cup competition.

But, in from the off last night, the 20-year-old showcased what he is all about, lighting up the Midlands courtesy of an impressive blend of touch, pace, guile and forward drive.

In turn, a comparison with one of Tottenham’s most gifted-ever stars was forthcoming on the back of the full-time whistle, with former Lilywhites stopper Graham Roberts having taken to social media to flag up the similarities between Gil’s game, and that of Argentine Ossie Ardiles:
