Anthony Martial flatters to deceive

Anthony Martial has been pushed further down the Manchester United pecking order following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo at the back end of the summer transfer window. The Frenchman, who netted just four times in the Premier League last campaign, was offered a chance to prove himself in the Carabao Cup against West Ham.

However, he flattered to deceive, offering little in attack as the Red Devils were knocked out by an impressive West Ham side by a 1-0 scoreline. With Edinson Cavani due to return to the bench, question marks surround Martial’s future.

As per The Telegraph, the 25-year-old could well be departing the club next summer, but if overseas reports are to be believed, he could be on his way even sooner than that as he looks to win a place in France’s World Cup 2022 squad.

Arsenal and Tottenham interested in Martial

As per transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, however, a move could materialise sooner than the summer, with both Arsenal and Spurs thought to be interested in the Frenchman.

Should Arsenal lose Alexandre Lacazette this January, a move for another striker could certainly be on the cards, while Tottenham were unsuccessful in their chase for Lautaro Martinez in the summer, suggesting that they are still in the market for a forward.

Would Manchester United even consider strengthening a fellow Premier League side midway through the season though, and would either club offer enough to tempt the Red Devils to cash in on a man that set them back 54 million pounds in 2015.
