Who is the best captain pick for Gameweek 6?

Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United Newcastle 11092021

Fully rested after not being included in the squad for Manchester United’s Carabao Cup exit at the hands of West Ham, Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.7m) looks the best bet for the captaincy for Gameweek 6.

The Portuguese has made a flying start following his return to Old Trafford, scoring four goals in three games in all competitions, including in the dramatic 2-1 win over the Hammers in the Premier League last time out.

Mohamed Salah (£12.6m), as always, looks a more than viable alternative, although the fact Liverpool are away against Brentford, who have made an impressive start to life in England’s top flight, sways us more towards Ronaldo this week.

Goal’s suggested Wildcard squad

We’ve opted for a goalkeeper duo of Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) and Ben Foster (£4m), with the former facing Wolves – who were soundly beaten by Brentford last time out – at home in Gameweek 6.

Foster, meanwhile, stood in for Daniel Bachmann (£4.5m) in Watford’s 3-1 win over Norwich and, given he’s among the cheapest goalkeepers available in FPL, he makes for a decent substitute option.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), who Jurgen Klopp has confirmed should be available again for Saturday’s meeting with Brentford, is also in, with the Liverpool right-back having already scored 34 points this season.

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw (£5.5m) is another who should offer a healthy points return, with the 26-year-old currently second in the ‘Creativity’ table on FPL, a variable that tracks goalscoring opportunities made.

In picking Tino Livramento (£4.2m), you have a value player who has forced his way into Southampton’s starting XI and doesn’t appear likely to lose his spot any time soon, while Javier Manquillo (£4m) and Kostas Tsimikas (£4m) are suitable bench occupiers.

The midfield is packed with goal and assist potential, with Mohamed Salah (£12.6m) leading the way, and favourable fixtures for the likes of Harvey Barnes (£6.8m), Ismaila Sarr (£6.1m) and Wilfried Zaha (£6.9m) see them all included.

And in attack, Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.7m) has already proved he means business at Manchester United and should be a shrewd addition despite his lofty price, while he’s flanked by Michail Antonio (£7.9m) and Allan Saint-Maximin (£6.7m).
