PSG & Chelsea linked with Hakimi

Achraf Hakimi spent two seasons on loan in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, where he impressed in a back-five, forming a solid partnership with Jadon Sancho.

Despite a stellar 2019/20 campaign, which saw him score nine and assist 10, however, Real Madrid were not willing to give Hakimi a chance to impress in their side once he returned from loan.

Instead, Los Blancos shipped the Moroccan off to Inter Milan for a fee reported to be around £40m.

Inter, like Dortmund in 2019/20, largely operated with a back-five system this past season.

This allowed Hakimi to again excel in his favoured right-wing-back role.

All told, the 22-year-old scored seven and assisted ten in 37 league outings, as Inter secured their first Serie A title in 10 years.

In turn, such impressive form inevitably resulted in Hakimi being linked with another move across Europe.

The front-runners for the youngster were said to have been PSG and Chelsea.

Why Hakimi joined PSG over Chelsea

In the end, though, it would be PSG who won the race for the Moroccan.

The French side are understood to have paid around £51.3m up front, with that figure potentially rising to £60m.

And now, Hakimi has opened up on his summer switch to PSG.

The defender confirmed he had an offer from Chelsea and an offer from PSG, but he felt he had to go to Paris and that he would be happy there:

“I had two offers, one from Chelsea and one from Paris Saint-Germain.

“But I felt I had to come to Paris, that I would have been happy there.

“PSG is a great club, I really appreciate the support the fans gave me straight away. I was lucky because so many other champions joined me. “I feel good at PSG, we have a dream team and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
