Man United duo doubtful for midweek
Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær delivered a fresh injury update on defensive duo Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire in the wake of the Red Devil’s disappointing 1-0 loss at Old Trafford to Aston Villa earlier today.
Shaw limped off the pitch after just 35-minutes of action against Dean Smith’s victorious Villa outfit, with the creativity seen from his highly effective overlapping runs a big miss for Man United as they struggled to break the deadlock.

To make matters worse, Maguire would eventually follow in Shaw’s footsteps when he himself had to call for the medics to remove him with a shade over 20-minutes of action left at the Theatre of Dreams.
Solskjaer confirms Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire are early doubts for the Champions League next week. “At the moment they don’t look OK for Wednesday but let’s see.”

Now, according to Solskjær, the key backline duo are doubts when Man United host recent nemesis Villarreal in their second Champions League group stage match at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening
If their absences goes on to be confirmed, Shaw’s natural replacement will undoubtedly be Alex Telles – who replaced him against Villa – while there are two options for who could fill the Maguire void at the heart of the defense; one of Eric Bailly, or Victor Lindelöf.
Worst possible time for a potential injury crisis
Man United fans will be sweating over the availability of the England international pair, with a string of upcoming fixtures that is sure to put the Red Devil’s strong start of the season to the test.

Solskjær will have been left very disappointed in the home defeat given a run of eight difficult fixtures against Villarreal, Everton, Leicester City, Atalanta (twice), Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester City.
