An early insight into the wellbeing of Chelsea star Reece James has been forthcoming online, after the defender was forced to limp out of the club’s meeting with Manchester City.
Jesus secures all three points
Thomas Tuchel’s men were of course back in action a short time ago.
After continuing their fine start to the campaign courtesy of a penalty shootout downing of Aston Villa in the League Cup in midweek, the Blues today welcomed Premier League champions City to Stamford Bridge, for an early-season litmus test.
When all was said and done in West London, though, Chelsea, ultimately, came up short.
A wonderful display on the part of visitors City saw Pep Guardiola’s men remind fans across England of their true dominance when firing on all cylinders, en route to a deserved 1-0 win.
Gabriel Jesus proved match-winner on the day, directing home a deflected effort on the spin early in the 2nd-half:

James latest
As outlined above, though, the woes of hosts Chelsea did not end with simply the eventual result at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
This comes with the Pensioners having also been dealt a concerning blow on the personnel front.
Just shy of the half-hour mark, key defender Reece James went to ground holding his ankle, after appearing to pick up a problem whilst contesting with Jack Grealish.
The English international was subsequently seen to by Chelsea’s medical team, but deemed in no condition to continue, before ultimately limping off.
In turn, supporters of the Blues had since been patiently awaiting an update on the wellbeing of their side’s stopper, ahead of a crunch clash with Italian heavyweights Juventus in midweek.
And though Thomas Tuchel is yet to speak out over the problem picked up by James, the early word from inside the stadium has proven far from encouraging.
As per the reliable Nizaar Kinsella, the 21-year-old was seen with his ankle in heavy bandaging as he departed Stamford Bridge:

Others in attendance, meanwhile, noted that James looked less than comfortable when putting weight on the problem ankle:

Will hopefully get an update from Tuchel on the injury in his post-match press conference https://t.co/J7d11vfend
