Arsenal’s stance on sacking Mikel Arteta revealed ahead of Tottenham

Arsenal under Arteta

Mikel Arteta is now in the midst of his third season at Arsenal.

Granted, he did take over midway through 2019/20 following Unai Emery’s sacking, but the Spaniard only managed to guide the Gunners to an 8th placed finish that term.

Last season represented Arteta’s first full year at the helm, and with big signings such as Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes on board, fans were likely expecting big things from their side.

However, the north Londoners were once again forced to settle for 8th place last time out.

This summer, meanwhile, saw Arsenal once again fairly active in the market, addressing some problem areas and adding youth to the side.

But, whilst we are only six weeks into the new season, the Gunners reclaiming a top-six spot already looks quite unlikely.

The capital outfit endured a simply horrid start to the campaign, which saw them lose three league games in a row without scoring a single goal.

Arsenal’s stance on sacking Arteta

Arsenal have since bounced back to a certain extent, picking up 1-0 wins over fellow strugglers, Norwich and Burnley.

Now, though, Arteta and co. are set to face their first real test on the back of the club’s upturn in form.

The Gunners will play host to Tottenham in a North London Derby later today. Spurs have had a mixed start to 2021/22, too, losing two and winning three in the PL.

But the Lilywhites should still provide a much sterner test than either Burnley or Norwich.

And now, ahead of the game, Arsenal’s stance on Mikel Arteta’s future has been revealed.

As per football.london, citing the Daily Mail:

Arsenal are reportedly not considering sacking Mikel Arteta following the Gunners’ resurgence over recent weeks.

It is added that replacements for the Spaniard were sounded out over the past few months, but back-to-back wins in the league and a spot in the 4th round of the League Cup appear to have changed the Arsenal board’s position, for the time being at least.
