Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the contract situations of both Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba at Manchester United.
Pogba’s Man United contract
First up comes an update on Paul Pogba.
Pogba’s contract is a much more pressing issue than that of Fernandes’, as it runs out at the end of this season, meaning the Frenchman could depart for free in less than a year’s time.
Reports earlier this month suggested that he was leaning towards signing a new deal:
🚨 Exclusive: Paul Pogba leaning towards signing new Manchester United contract. Saturday had major impact on 28yo’s thinking over future. Many factors to consider but now a genuine chance that once talks resume an extension may follow @TheAthleticUK #MUFC https://t.co/KlK4HsrZtm

However, Pogba’s agent would then speak out, and admitted that his client could return to Juventus:
Mino Raiola to Rai Sport: “Paul Pogba is out of contract in June, so we’ll talk with Man Utd and we’ll see what happens. Juventus? Paul still loves Turin. There’s a chance that Pogba will return to Juventus, yes – but it also depends on Juventus plans”. 🔴 @CorSport #MUFC #Juve pic.twitter.com/dQvi8ckDGY

Now, as per Romano, Man United offered a contract to Pogba months ago, and are waiting on the midfielder’s final decision.
It is added that Pogba has been loving the atmosphere created at Old Trafford in recent months, but has not yet provided a definitive answer, with the Red Devils expected to insist on their influential midfielder penning fresh terms soon.
Fernandes’ contract
Secondly, on Fernandes, reports earlier this month suggested that the midfielder is close to committing to fresh terms on a deal that will reportedly be five years long, keeping him in Manchester until 2026.
It was added that Fernandes will increase his salary by nearly £100,000-a-week, to over £250,000-a-week, with it also suggested that the 26-year-old has been persuaded to stay put on the back of the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, and United’s huge summer investment on the transfer market.
And the update from Romano echoes this positive outlook, with the journalist claiming that optimism is much higher regarding Fernandes signing a new deal, after talks begun back in July.
The Italian also details that Bruno is a leader on an off the pitch, and is very happy at Old Trafford.
