Ndombele asks to leave Tottenham
Tottenham signed Ndombele from Lyon in 2019 for a club-record €60m.
Ndombele would not hit the ground running at Spurs, with the midfielder seemingly struggling to adapt to the aggressive nature of the Premier League and its physical demands.
But when Jose Mourinho left the club and was replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo, some Tottenham fans were no doubt hopeful we would finally see the best of Ndombele in a Spurs shirt.
Before that could happen, though, it was reported that Ndombele wanted to leave Spurs over the summer:
Tanguy Ndombele has asked to leave Tottenham this window. That’s why Nuno hasn’t been picking him so far this season.

Hugo Lloris on Tanguy Ndombele
Ndombele has since been integrated back into the Spurs’ set-up.
The midfielder has started in Spurs’ last two league games, their League Cup win over Wolves and their Europa Conference League draw with Stade Rennais.
In truth, however, Ndombele has still failed to showcase anywhere close to his best form.
And whilst some Spurs fans may have given up on their club-record signing ever coming good, Hugo Lloris has certainly not, with the Frenchman recently predicting that he is sure Ndombele is going to perform.
The Tottenham shot-stopper also outlined that Ndombele needs games and to ‘feel the responsibility’:
“Tanguy needs games, games, games, repetition of games.
“[He needs to] try to feel this responsibility because he’s not a young player any more. And a player with his talent and quality must feel responsibility inside the changing room and the team.
“Honestly, I think he’s ready, his mind is ready. He’s here with a smile, he’s connected with the team and that’s the most important thing. Obviously, it’s the manager’s decision to play him or not play him, but I can feel his energy is back. And, for sure, he’s going to perform. I have no doubt about that.
“With Tanguy, the first season, because of the language, it was sometimes frustrating with him to be not be able to talk with the others. Today, he’s totally open and he can talk and joke and share moments. That’s very important as a player, to feel connected to the team.”
