Takehiro Tomiyasu has recently spoken out about joining Arsenal over the summer.
Tomiyasu impressing with Arsenal
Arsenal would have a fairly active 2021 summer transfer window.
The Gunners brought in six senior players, all under the age of 24, as they look to rejuvenate their squad.
A number of said signings have impressed already, including Aaron Ramsdale, who has now seemingly usurped Bernd Leno as Arsenal’s no.1 for the time being.
One player who has seemingly proven the bargain of the summer for the north Londoners, though, is Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Tomiyasu was signed from Serie A outfit Bologna for a fee reported to be around £16.7m.
‘For me Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world’
Despite still only being 22 and fairly inexperienced in Europe, Tomiyasu has slotted seamlessly into Arsenal’s back-four.
The Japanese star has featured in Arsenal’s last three league ties, in which the Gunners have conceded just one goal.
Tomiyasu would earn praise from both Mikel Arteta and Arsenal legend Ian Wright following his debut.
And now, the defender has explained why he couldn’t say no to an Arsenal switch, stating that they are one of the biggest clubs in the world and there is no reason at all to say no to them:
“For me Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so there is no reason at all to say no to them. It’s as simple as that – when I had the offer, I just wanted to be part of Arsenal.
“I wanted to play at a higher level, so I am so grateful to be given this chance by Arsenal. I just could not believe it when I found out.
“I was very excited as soon as I knew. I didn’t need to call anyone or speak to anyone for advice. It was an easy choice for me, because, well because it’s Arsenal.
“I didn’t even have time to speak to the manager before signing the contract, and I didn’t need to. I wanted to come.”
