Liverpool have provided an official explanation for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s absence vs FC Porto on Tuesday.
Porto vs Liverpool
Liverpool are back in Champions League action later this evening.
The Reds began their 2021/22 European venture by facing off with AC Milan at Anfield.
The tie was a closely-contested affair, which would see Milan head in at the break with a 2-1 lead thanks to late first-half strikes from Ante Rebic and Brahim Diaz.
Liverpool, though, would fight back and eventually come away with a big 3-2 win.
Jurgen Klopp and co. must now turn their attentions to FC Porto who, on paper, should be the Reds’ easiest group-stage opponents this year.
However, it is worth noting that Porto would hold Atletico Madrid to a 0-0 draw in their opening group clash, suggesting they will be no pushover when they host Liverpool at the Estadio do Dragao shortly

Why Alexander-Arnold has missed out vs Porto
Ahead of the game, Liverpool have released their matchday squad, which was pretty standard and did not include Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The right-back’s absence is not a surprise, with it already having been confirmed on Monday that TAA would not travel to Portugal.
The details around why Alexander-Arnold was not set to travel had remained fairly unknown, with the Liverpool Echo saying this on Monday:
Liverpool have remained tight-lipped over Alexander-Arnold’s fitness.
Now though, the Reds have provided an official explanation for the right-back missing out, confirming that he has a sore groin:

Elsewhere, James Pearce of The Athletic reported that it is still not clear if Trent will be available for the weekend when Liverpool face Manchester City:
