Fiorentina president “getting worried” over future of Tottenham target

Tottenham and Atletico Madrid go head to head for Vlahovic

Tottenham and Atletico Madrid went head to head for the services of 21 year old Serbian forward Nicola Vlahovic last summer, only for him to turn down both clubs and remain in Serie A.

Spurs were looking for someone to play alongside Harry Kane this summer, but were unable to do so, and are suffering as a result. However, they could have been handed a big boost should they want to pick him up next summer.

New contract stalling?

Vlahovic is currently under contract with La Viola until 2023, and has begun the 2021-22 season in the same brilliant form that he spent 2020-21.

In seven games so far this season, the Serbian striker has netted six goals, showing why he was such hot property in the summer.

And now, speaking to TMW, Fiorentina’s CEO Rocco Commisso has revealed that contract talks over a new deal have reached something of an impasse at present, saying:

“I don’t know if Vlahovic will sign a new deal.”

He continued to reveal that they had offered the star man a contract worth 8 million euros per year (£132,ooo per week before tax), but that nothing has been agreed, claiming:

“We offered him €40m gross salary paid in five years, the biggest contract in Fiorentina history, more than Batistuta and Rui Costa. He’s taking a big risk – I’m getting nervous…”

With just a year left on his contract come next summer, could we see Tottenham and a host of other clubs join the pursuit for Vlahovic, especially if he continues to bang in the goals this campaign.

And how much would Fiorentina be looking to recoup for their star man?
