Tuchel provides mixed Chelsea team news update ahead of Southampton

Chelsea vs Southampton

Chelsea are back in Premier League action on Saturday the 2nd of October.

The Blues are set to host Southampton as they look to bounce back from their recent losses.

Chelsea were handed their first defeat of the season by Manchester City in the Premier League last week.

The Londoners then fell to Juventus by the same scoreline, 1-0, in the Champions League earlier this week.

Southampton, though, should be a much easier task for Chelsea to navigate. The Saints have not won a single Premier League game this term, instead drawing four and losing two.

Tuchel on Mount & James

Ahead of the game on Saturday, Thomas Tuchel would speak to the media on Friday.

During his press conference, the German would provide updates on several Chelsea stars.

All of Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, N’Golo Kante and Reece James missed out vs Juventus in midweek, with Kante out due to Covid-19 and already confirmed to miss the Southampton game.

And, when speaking on Friday, Tuchel would provide an update on James, confirming that his England call-up must have been a misunderstanding as he is only training in the pool, all but confirming he will not feature vs Southampton.

“When I saw it I thought maybe Reece goes with the water polo teams as he is training in the pool. I am surprised. My understanding is that he will not go.”

On a more positive note, the Chelsea boss confirmed that Mason Mount is back for the Blues this weekend.
