Gabriel stars for Arsenal
Just over one year after signing for the Gunners from Lille, Gabriel has become a firm fans favourite in the heart of Mikel Arteta’s defence.
Injury restricted the Brazilian defender to just 23 league starts last campaign, but after missing the start of the 2021-22 campaign through injury too, he has turned in three impeccable performances that have coincided with Arsenal’s significant upturn in form.

Forming a seemingly strong defensive trio with new duo Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale, if Gabriel is able to stay fit this season then he will be key to any chances Arsenal have of achieving European football come May.
Brazilian outlines the biggest difficulty he faced when joining Arsenal
Speaking to Sky Sports in an exclusive interview, Gabriel outlined the progress he feels that he made last year, revealing that he felt he had a strong season despite Arsenal’s disappointment, saying:
“It was a year of learning,”
“Of course, the team had a bad run, but I started well and overall I think it was a good year for me. I learned a lot of things and I’m a more mature player this year. I know the league better as well.”

The Brazilian also outlined the biggest difficulty that he faced when he joined the Gunners last summer, claiming that:
“I think, more than anything on the pitch, the language was the biggest difficulty for me in terms of adapting,”
“There are a lot of players here who speak French, Portuguese and Spanish but in this country, you have to speak English and that was tough for me.
“My English still isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely a lot better than it was and that’s helping me a lot.”
With English speakers now across Mikel Arteta’s backline in the form of Ben White, Kieran Tierney and Aaron Ramsdale, will the communication improve between Arsenal’s defence this season?
