Ole Gunnar Solskjær confirms Anthony Martial blow after Man United’s draw with Everton

Martial confirmed injured in aftermath of Everton draw

Manchester United‘s French international forward Anthony Martial has suffered an injury set back against Everton in the Red Devil’s 1-1 draw against Rafa Benítez’s Toffees at Old Trafford.

Martial headed-home United’s only goal of the match just two minutes before the interval; his first of the 2021-22 Premier League season in what was only his second appearance in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s starting XI.

Despite his forced removal in the 57th minute, the severity of the injury remains unclear and for the time being, Martial is being assessed by the clubs physio’s

There is no telling on what a substantial time away from first-team duties would mean for Martial given his lack of starts thus far in the current campaign, and with his only goal of the current campaign coming today against Everton, there is little on-pitch evidence to suggest he should have his duties increased.

His limited use thus far in Champions League is a tell-tale sign that Solskjær does not intend to utilize the versatile Frenchman as more than a depth option this season, which would hardly come as a surprise given the wealth of attacking options at the disposal of the Norwegian.

France call-up in jeopardy?

To the surprise of many, Martial received a call-up in Didier Deschamps’ latest France squad as Les Bleus are set to clash with Belgium in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League.

Martial was included in a forward line along with Kylian Mbappé, Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann, Wissam Ben Yedder, and Moussa Diaby.

Should his latest injury prove to be more than just a minor knock, the focus must surely shift to United’s difficult run of fixtures coming up after the international break, starting with a trip to Leicester City before the Red Devil’s host a tricky Atalanta outfit.
