Pep Guardiola uses Milner no-call to aim digs at Man United & Liverpool

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola made use of his post-match media duties this evening to direct jibes at not only Liverpool, but also Manchester United.

De Bruyne clinches a point

Guardiola and co. were of course back in action a short time ago.

Amid an altogether hit-and-miss spell of form, which had seen them follow up a crucial Premier League win over Chelsea with a disappointing defeat to PSG in midweek, the Sky Blues, this evening, made the daunting trip to Anfield.

City were no doubt fully aware ahead of kick-off that despite already slipping up versus the likes of Tottenham and Southampton over the early weeks of the season, a 3-point haul would guide them into the international break sitting pretty atop the English top-flight.

When all was said and done on Merseyside, though, ultimately, the Manchester giants were forced to settle for a point.

After Liverpool twice took the lead, courtesy of Sadio Mane and a Mohamed Salah Goal of the Season contender, City stood tall in the face of adversity, to level things up on both occasions.

First on target for the visitors was Phil Foden, superb once again throughout the 90 minutes on Sunday, before Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected effort 10 minutes from time ensured that the spoils were shared.

‘Manchester City player would’ve been off’

As outlined above, however, despite his side’s altogether impressive display of spirit and resilience, upon the final whistle sounding at Anfield, Pep Guardiola was left none too happy.

This came as a result of a 2nd-half incident, which, controversially, saw James Milner avoid a red card.

Just minutes before Mo Salah put Liverpool back in front, Milner was guilty of scything down Bernardo Silva, as the Portuguese broke into the hosts’ half.

The incident looked as clear-cut a yellow card as imaginable, yet, upon reflection, referee Paul Tierney opted against brandishing a 2nd booking in the direction of the stand-in Reds defender.

Pep Guardiola was not at all shy in making his disillusionment with the decision clear at the time, and refused to bite his tongue post-match, too.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s credible draw, the Spaniard made use of the opportunity to highlight his grievances with what he views as consistently favourable decisions going the way of the home side at not only Anfield, but also Old Trafford…
