Antonio Rüdiger fails to shut the door on interest from Bayern Munich

Rüdiger comments on Bayern Munich interest leave door open

Chelsea stalwart Antonio Rüdiger has failed to shoot down rumors that he would be open to a move to Bayern Munich in the summer.

The German international has drawn interest from the Rekordmeister recently, especially surrounding the rumored uncertainty that fellow Die Mannschaft colleague Niklas Süle would be on the Blues’ radar for a move to Stamford Bridge in the same window once his contract expires at the Allianz Arena.

Rüdiger has been ever-present under Thomas Tuchel since the former Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and Mainz 05 tactician arrived in west London after Chelsea parted ways with Frank Lampard.

His status at the club has seen him elevated to untouchable in the first-choice XI, featuring from the off in nearly 90% of Chelsea’s fixtures across all competitions since Tuchel took charge.

Budding partnerships in a back three with the likes of Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva, and Cesar Azpilicueta were chief in the Blues’ Champions League success last term, while his contributions to their flying start to the current campaign that sees them top of the table with the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League.

But uncertainty still remains around the VfB Stuttgart youth academy product, and Chelsea could be in real danger of losing one of the top performing center-back’s in Europe in recent months.

High wage demands alert Real Madrid

With rumored wage demands of around the £200k/week mark, it is hardly a surprise that negotiations between Rüdiger and Chelsea are at an impasse for the time being.

With Bayern’s apparently interest in the German being cooled by club sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić with the Bavarian’s being “very, very well staffed” at center-back according to the former Bosnian international, Real Madrid could steal a march on their competition to secure Rüdiger’s signature in the summer.

Should Chelsea lose the German international on a free deal, the club may not have to replace him via the transfer market thanks to the Cobham pipeline, however.

The rapid rise of young center-back Trevoh Chalobah could provide an in-house replacement for Rüdiger, with Chalobah alreasy receiving considerate minutes this term after impressing Tuchel during the club’s pre-season program.
