Astronomical amount Barcelona still owe for previous signings revealed

Barcelona’s financial struggles

Barcelona’s money problems have been well documented this summer.

Falling foul of La Liga salary caps meant that they could not register star man Lionel Messi’s new contract, which ultimately saw him depart to Paris Saint Germain for free.

However, this was just the tip of the iceberg: player salaries had to be slashed in order just to register new players, with Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets all agreeing to pitch in.

With Emerson Royal departing to Tottenham, Junior Firpo joining Leeds and OGC Nice exercising their option to purchase Jean-Clair Todibo, they have raised some funds, but they still remain firmly in the red.

Barcelona’s payments still to be made revealed

Now, in a shocking report by Spanish outlet MARCA, the amount that the club still owes to clubs for their previous additions has been revealed.

As per the Spanish site, Koeman’s side still needs to pay 115 million euros for their previous signings. Notably, this includes 39 for Miralem Pjanic, who now plies his trade at Turkish outfit Besiktas, and 13 million euros for Coutinho, who joined the club in January 2018.

Additionally, they are required to pay another 48 million euros to Ajax, 32 for former Ajax man Frenkie de Jong and a further 16 million euros for Sergino Dest.

This is sure to have some severe ramifications not only for this summer, but summers to come, as they look to redress the books after hitting rock bottom.
