Concern for West Ham as key defender forced to sit out World Cup qualifiers

West Ham on the up

West Ham have, of course, been one of the most impressive Premier League sides over the last year or so.

David Moyes and co. were able to beat the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to a 6th-place finish in the Premier League in 2021/22, earning them their first-ever spot in the Europa League group stages.

The Hammers have also had a fairly decent start to the current seaosn and do look set to top their Europa League group after picking up 2-0 wins over both Dinamo Zagreb and Rapid Vienna.

Coufal out of World Cup qualifying matches

Part of the reason for West Ham’s recent success has been their solid recruitment over the last 18 months.

One of the best examples of this has been Vladimir Coufal, who signed for the Londoners in October of 2020 from Slavia Prague for a fee believed to be around £5.4m.

Coufal has since cemented himself as integral figure at West Ham and has become one of the best right-backs currently plying their trade in the Premier League.

However, West Ham do look to have been dealt a blow on the Coufal front on Tuesday.

The defender has been called up by the Czech Republic for their upcoming international fixtures vs Wales and Belarus.

But, as reported by the Evening Standard, Coufal has been ruled out of those games on Tuesday.

The nature of the issue keeping Coufal out has not been revealed, but the Hammers are no doubt hopeful it is nothing too serious.
