International football returns
The latest international break of the season is now upon us.
Unlike the September break, Brazilian Premier League stars are set to feature for their country this month.
The Premier League agreement to stop players from travelling to countries on the UK government’s Covid-19 red list would see the likes of Raphinha, Alison, Thiago Silva and more stay in England during the September break.
However, as reported elsewhere, the government has since agreed a compromise with FIFA that will allow fully vaccinated players returning from red-list countries and their national team bubbles to play and train with their clubs, albeit while quarantining at ‘bespoke’ facilities.
Liverpool trio likely to miss out vs Watford
This is not the best of news for Liverpool, however, who have seen Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho called up for Brazil’s three matches.
And whilst the players returning to quarantine in a hotel whilst also being allowed out to train and play isn’t a huge issue, Brazil’s fixture list is a concern.
This is because Brazil’s final clash of the break sees them face off with Uruguay on Friday the 15th of October at 1:30 am UK time.
Liverpool, though, then face off with Watford at 12:30 pm UK time on Saturday the 16th.
Such a short time gap means it would be very, very unlikely that the trio would be available to start vs the Hornets.
This, as per the Telegraph, would lead to Liverpool requesting the kick-off time be moved to 7:45 pm UK time on the 16th.
However, that request was refused and, as per the Telegraph, it means that unless Brazil release Alisson, Fabinho and Firmino back to Liverpool before next Saturday’s match, they face missing the club’s clash with Watford.
Liverpool’s request to move Watford game rejected – Jurgen Klopp’s Brazil internationals may now miss the Premier League match. @ben_rumsby reports | https://t.co/oLhDQzwL1l
