Fikayo Tomori rewarded for brilliant form
Since joining AC Milan in January 2021, Fikayo Tomori has been nothing short of sensational in the heart of AC Milan’s defence. The Englishman helped his side to second place in the Serie A last campaign, and seven games into this campaign they also sit in seventh, thanks in no small part to his defensive contribution.
This has to be the best tackle in the Serie A this season.

As a result of his good form, Tomori was handed a call up to Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary.
Tomori opens up on leaving Chelsea and working with Maldini
Of course, Tomori was once a Chelsea youth player, and went on to represent the blues 27 times before falling down the pecking order and eventually moving to AC Milan.
Speaking before England fly out to Andorra for Saturday’s fixture, Tomori lifted the lid on leaving Chelsea, revealing that:
“It was a difficult time. Every footballer wants to play and to show themselves on the pitch and when you can’t, it’s difficult. To overcome it has been good and it has gone so well so I’ve not really thought about it.”
“It’s led me to be here, so it’s going really well!” 🔴⚫

Tomori also spoke about the influence of Paolo Maldini, widely considered one of the greatest ever defenders, on his career in Milan, saying:
“When he was speaking to me I was like: ‘Woah, it’s Paolo Maldini’. There is that kind of pressure knowing that he’s watching every game and he’s there at the training ground every day,”
“Me being a defender, I want to impress him, so when I was midway through the end of my loan last season – so about April time – we had a chat and I was speaking about what he thinks about my game, what I need to improve…
🗣”I want to impress him and having a legend like that around you’re going to listen to him.”

“Not just with me but with other full-backs, other defenders, other players in general he’s really engaging. Having a legend like that there, when he says something you’re going to listen, so it’s definitely a nice thing to have him around and he’s been a really big help.”
Will Tomori be able to add to his solitary England cap during this international break?
