Newcastle United takeover back on
Newcastle United were the subject of a failed takeover in April 2020, but the attempt was halted by various issues with piracy surrounding BeIN Sport, which was at one point banned in Saudi Arabia.
However, as outlined by The Athletic, the decision to ban the streaming service has since been overturned.
NEWS | Saudi Arabia has reversed its decision to ban beIN Sport — the Premier League’s official Middle East broadcaster — from operating in the country.

In turn, this spells good news for the Magpies’ takeover, which may proceed once again.
LATEST | The Saudi Arabia-financed consortium’s bid for #NUFC is expected to go through in the near future following the reversal of a ban on beIN Sport in the Gulf nation.

Indeed, the Athletic claim that the bid is “expected to go through in the near future”, meaning that Newcastle United could join the growing number of clubs financed from the Middle East.
“Cans” trends as Newcastle fans react to the news
It is safe to say that Newcastle fans have never been Mike Ashley’s biggest fans, but after the news broke of the takeover still having legs, they made their opinions crystal clear. In true Geordie fashion, it revolved around alcohol, with fans of the Tyneside outfit causing #Cans (Can of beer) to trend on twitter in the hours following the news.

Safe to say, if the takeover does go through, Newcastle fans will be keeping the City bars propped up for the forseeable future.
