What Brazil’s stance means for availability of Liverpool pair Alisson & Fabinho vs Watford

Liverpool bereft of Brazilian pair immediately after break

Liverpool have been hit with a frustrating dose of reality today, after the club failed in their last-ditch attempt to shift the landscape enough to have Brazilian pair Alisson and Fabinho available immediately after the international break.

The Selecão duo have a trio of World Cup qualification fixtures to contend with while back across the Atlantic, as Brazil prepare to clash with Venezuela, Colombia, and Uruguay. The fixture against La Celeste presents the issue at hand for Reds boss Jürgen Klopp.

Brazil have seen fit to schedule the fixture in the early hours of 15 October, which is less than 36-hours from the time Liverpool are set to clash with Claudio Ranieri’s Watford at Vicarage Road in a tricky away day.

Despite the efforts of Liverpool – and other Premier League clubs – to convince Brazil to release their players from camp early in order to return to England with enough time to feature in domestic affairs, they have fallen on deaf ears. Selecão boss Tite has completely ruled out the possibility of players returning to their clubs during a fixture period as important as World Cup qualifying.

“There was never that possibility (of them returning to England early). They were called up for the three games”

Quarantine upon arrival

To make matters more frustrating, all Premier League players returning from red-list countries will be subject to a 10-day quarantine period after arriving back in England.

Thankfully, players will be allowed to train with their respective clubs as well as play in matches, as long as they are quarantined. Both Alisson and Fabinho have been confirmed to be vaccinated by the Brazilian FA, and thus, will be available for selection.
