Cristiano Ronaldo sexual assault case recommended for dismissal by Las Vegas court

Ronaldo court case recommended for dismissal

Cristiano Ronaldo may be set to have his record wiped clean after a Las Vegas court recommended the sexual assault case involving the global star be dismissed.

According to Mail Online, Leslie Mark Stovall – the attorney of  Kathryn Mayorga – was accused to basing the case on documents that were stolen and contained leaked information he should not have been privy to.

“Dismissing Mayorga’s case for the inappropriate conduct of her attorney is a harsh result.

But it is, unfortunately, the only appropriate sanction to ensure the integrity of the judicial process.” – Magistrate Judge Daniel Albregts to US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey

Mail Online also states that “According to legal papers lodged at the United States District Court in the District of Nevada, Ronaldo’s lawyers have been pushing for Ms Mayorga’s case to be dismissed since the summer over the conduct of her legal team”

It is imperative to note that the case is not being thrown out for reasons of legality or other findings that prove any innocence of Ronaldo, and the recommendation is sure to be appealed as Mayorga’s legal representation will have 14-days to object to the courts current decision.

The sexual assault case as things stand

A planned protest surrounding the Ronaldo court case had taken place a month ago during the Portuguese internationals second Old Trafford debut when a plane flying a banner of “Believe Kathryn Mayorga” was seen above the Man United ground.

As things stand, a non-disclosure agreement exists between Ronaldo and Mayorga, with the terms meant to “put an end to the outrageous accusations made against him, in order precisely to avoid attempts […] to destroy a reputation built thanks to hard work, athletic ability and behavioral correction” according to his legal team.

Las Vegas police have yet to levy official charges against Ronaldo, as not enough evidence existed to prove the allegations beyond reasonable doubt, but Mayorga continues to claim the assault while Ronaldo insists on his innocence.
