Tottenham’s up and down start to the season
After a shoddy performance at the Emirates Stadium that saw Spurs fall to a 3-1 defeat, Nuno Espirito Santo was facing major question marks about his future.
Wins over Slovenian minnows NS Mura and Aston Villa in the seven days since have helped steady the ship, and it seems as though he will make it to the end of the season if possible, given the clause inserted into his contract.

With another international break now here, however, further problems lie ahead.
Four players set to be missing
A quartet of players have been called up to South American sides, with Giovanni Lo Celso and Cristian Romero set to represent Argentina, Davinson Sanchez called up by Colombia and Emerson Royal handed a Brazil call up.
Of course, the Argentine duo and Sanchez were all forced to fly home from the last international break via a training camp in Croatia in order to maintain their match fitness, that saw them miss the 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace.
Last time, the players were permitted to leave early, but Argentinian boss Lionel Scaloni shot down any hopes of them doing the same this time aroudn.
Speaking on the topic of leaving early, he said:
“We are not going to do the same as last time with the Premier League players, under no circumstances,”
“[Last month] I said that they came to play all three games but the players raised a difficult decision for me and I understood it, so I released them. Now the players are here to play the three games. Under no point of view they will leave earlier.”
To add further insult to injury, the Evening Standard report that:
“Colombia and Brazil are also refusing allow Davinson Sanchez and Emerson Royal, respectively, to return to the club early”
This means that Spurs could be without as many as four players (not including any injuries) for their tie with Newcastle, with just 36 hours between the final internationals and the clash with Steve Bruce’s side. While they have not given up hope of them playing, it seems a long way off.
