Liverpool and Manchester United are both expressing an interest in FC Barcelona starlet Gavi, according to reports stemming from Spain.
Barcelona’s academy
If FC Barcelona are going to once again become one of the most dominant sides in Europe, they will, amidst their financial woes, likely need to rely heavily on their young talent.
And, thankfully for Barca, their famed La Masia youth academy is already providing them with plenty of young stars.
Pedri, who had a superb Euro 2020 with Spain, and Ansu Fati, are likely to more well-known young stars currently earning their stripes with La Blaugrana.
Elsewhere, though, Barcelona have other young stars such as Nico Gonzalez, Oscar Mingueza and Gavi coming through their ranks.
It is the latter of that trio, though, who appears to have caught the eye of some of Europe’s top sides recently.
Gavi linked with Man United & Liverpool
Gavi is a 17-year-old La Masia product who has made seven appearances for Barcelona’s senior side, all of which have come during the 2021/22 campaign.
Gavi is a fairly versatile attacking midfielder who has been earning high praise recently.
Demetrio Albertini – former AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona star – recently stated that Gavi was AS Roma and Italy legend, Francesco Totti.
“Gavi is an exception, he is Francesco Totti, let’s call him that. But in Spain there is a training course that also includes second teams, where talent is confronted with experience. A talented player can be seen right away, there he has courage and you give him the opportunity, without fear.”
And now, the Daily Star, citing Spanish outlet El Nacional, write that Liverpool and Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing Gavi but could face competition from PSG.
It is added that Gavi has a €50million release clause inserted into his contract. And though it is suggested that Barcelona have made it a priority to offer their academy graduate improved terms, they have not yet been agreed.
Could Liverpool or Man United swoop in before Barcelona tie down Gavi to a new deal with a much higher release clause?
