The nominees for France Football’s prestigious annual round of individual awards have been unveiled on Friday, featuring a host of noteworthy takeaways.
Neuer & Musiala up for awards
First up ahead of November’s ceremony came the shortlist for the latest Yachine Trophy, the prize for Europe’s standout goalkeeper across the previous 12 months.
As expected, a whole host of the world’s finest shot-stoppers feature, including the likes of Ederson, Jan Oblak and Edouard Mendy:

Mount’s momentous achievement
Of course, this left just football’s most prestigious prize of all – the Ballon d’Or.
The most dominant pair in the history of the golden ball, as expected, feature on the 30-man strong shortlist, with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo joined by the likes of Barcelona sensation Pedri and Euro 2020 hero Simon Kjaer:

It is the inclusion of one of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea standouts, though, which has since given rise to an altogether noteworthy statistic.
As revealed a short time ago, in securing a nomination, Mason Mount has become the first Blues Academy product since John Terry back in 2009 to take his place amongst those up for the Ballon d’Or award.
