Aaron Ramsdale reveal’s Bukayo Saka’s role in Arsenal switch

Aaron Ramsdale has discussed the role that Bukayo Saka would play in his summer move to Arsenal.

Ramsdale’s Arsenal stint

Arsenal would bring in Aaron Ramsdale from now-Championship outfit Sheffield United over the summer.

The Englishman had previously not enjoyed the best of spells in the Premier League, with either Sheffield United or Bournemouth.

However, Ramsdale is still just 23 years of age, and full of potential. When the shot-stopper joined Arsenal, there was an expectation that he would play back-up to Bernd Leno.

And, for the first three league games of the season, this is what happened, with the German starting in the 2-0 loss to Brentford, 2-0 loss to Chelsea and 5-0 loss to Manchester City (Ramsdale had not yet signed for Arsenal at the time of the Brentford game).

But, following the Gunners’ awful start to the campaign, Mikel Arteta has since dropped Leno, and handed Ramsdale a chance to shine.

And, so far, the young shot-stopper has done exactly that, keeping three clean sheets from four in the Premier League, as well as impressing in conceding just once against Tottenham.

Ramsdale on role Saka played in Arsenal switch

Ramsdale is believed to have set Arsenal back a fair chunk of change, with the fee potentially rising to £30m.

And given his previously underwhelming spells in the English top-flight with Bournemouth and then Sheffield United, Arsenal fans may have been slightly skeptical of their club spending so much on a fairly unproven Premier League player.

However, the transfer has so far proven to be a great bit of business and Arsenal look set to be sorted for a no.1 keeper for the next decade.

Now, Ramsdale, who is away on international duty with England, has revealed the role Bukayo Saka had in him making the switch to Arsenal:

“Agent Saka. That’s what he says. He said the manager [Arteta] spoke to him a couple of times and thankfully he gave a good review of me.”

Ramsdale added on Saka:

“What a guy. He’s just happy. He’s just always happy. What a footballer as well. I’m very happy now he’s on my team at club level.

“When you come here and you’ve got the talent which we’ve got up top, Bukayo’s right in the mix of that.

“You just can’t help but smile when he’s mentioned or when he’s in the room.”
