Newcastle takeover complete

In case you have been under a rock, or avoiding football during the international break, Newcastle United’s long-awaited takeover by the the Saudi Public investment fund has finally been confirmed, making their new owners the wealthiest in the world.

Amanda Staveley, spokesperson for the takeover, has already set out the targets for the club in the coming years in an interview, revealing that she wanted to see the club at the top of the Premier League, but stressing that it was a 10-15 year project and would not occur overnight.

However, there will be movement in January.

The positions Newcastle are targeting revealed

Of course, Newcastle United currently languish in 19th place, having failed to win a game in their opening 7 clashes of the season. While speculation surrounding the future of manager Steve Bruce continues to circulate, they clearly need additions in January too if they are going to avoid a rather humiliating relegation given the takeover.

As already reported, one of their primary targets this January is Burnley defender James Tarkowski, who will have six months left on his contract at Turf Moor come the transfer window.

However, this is by no means the only work Newcastle plan on doing at the beginning of 2022, with the Telegraph also reporting that:

The club will also look to sign at least one full-back, a central-midfield player, a winger and a centre forward but there is no limit at this stage on the number of signings they can make.

Should they complete the signings of Premier League experienced players with similar calibre to Tarkowski in each of these positions, in addition to the likes of Joe Willock and Alan Saint-Maximin, they should comfortably survive.

Will they pull it off though?
