Liverpool in cruise control against Atletico
Liverpool are currently in cruise control at Anfield against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
First-half goals from Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota, both from delicious passes from Trent Alexander-Arnold, ensured that Liverpool found themselves in a commanding position even before a bizzare red card for Atleti’s Felipe rendered the game effectively over as a contest.
A contentious red card at Anfield! 🟥

The result (should it remain) means that the Reds are through as group winners, now 7 points ahead of second-placed Porto with six points left up for grabs. Jurgen Klopp’s side still have to travel to Milan, as well as hosting Porto, but the results are irrelevant to their progression from the group.
Double injury blow for Jurgen Klopp
The result and what it means for the Merseyside outfit were somewhat overshadowed by a pair of injury issues suffered by the Reds.
Going into the encounter, James Milner and Naby Keita were already out injured, while Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez didn’t make the matchday squad due to knocks. Worse still, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain went down briefly before carrying on for five minutes until he was substituted, threatening to further stretch already threadbare midfield resources.

There was a further, more worrying blow for the Reds, samba forward Roberto Firmino went off injured, and headed straight down the tunnel, not even sitting with his teammates for the rest of the game.
Firmino has gone off, straight down the tunnel. Minamino is ready to come on and so is Origi.

This could leave Klopp short of players for what is set to be a very busy period after the international break, although he will hope most will have recovered during that time.
For the weekend, however, they could be down to the bare bones.
