Chilwell addresses Chelsea fans
Chelsea’s star left-back Ben Chilwell took to Twitter to address Blues supporters after the extent of his injury and subsequent timeline to recovery was revealed.

Chilwell spoke directly to the fans in his social media message that was posted earlier today after it was confirmed by the club that the England man suffered a partial injury to his ACL that will require a six-week layoff before knowing if surgery is required;
“Very frustrating picking up an injury in a moment like this when I am really enjoying my football and playing in this team. I will do everything I can to get back on the pitch as soon as possible. Thank you for all the messages of support.”
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel directly confirmed the update during his pre-match presser as the Blues prepare for a visit from Manchester United on Sunday, stating that “Ben is out, he has a partial tear of his ACL, and the decision is to treat it conservatively. The next six weeks will tell the story.”
Blues consider left-back cover options
With Ben Chilwell potentially needing surgery amid the possibility of the England international missing the remainder of the 2021-22 season, Chelsea is now thrust into a position of figuring out how to provide cover in a position they are thin in.
With Emerson enjoying a highly-successful loan stint with Olympique Lyonnais, Tuchel can count on just out-of-favor Marcos Alonso as his only left-back option, but an option close to home could yet present itself.
Chelsea are reportedly considering bringing Ian Maatsen back from loan in January to cover Ben Chilwell…https://t.co/7HKSArLzhp pic.twitter.com/ymbolE04in

Another loaned player in the mold of 19-year-old Dutchman Ian Maatsen – currently at Coventry City – could be recalled to the club unexpectedly.
Maatsen has enjoyed a highly successful period at the Coventry Building Society Arena this season in the Championship, and could certainly offer a much more affordable option in a difficult January window, especially given the position in need of strengthening.
Could he be another Cobham academy graduate to shine when given his chance?
