Everton close 20 million+ euro deal for new left-back and what it means for Lucas Digne

Everton close on Vitaliy Mykolenko

Underachieving Everton look set to add additional quality to the backline under Rafa Benítez at Goodison Park as the club is said to be closing in on completing a deal for Dynamo Kyiv left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Ukrainian international is undergoing his medical today ahead of a deal that would see Everton shell out over €20million to secure his services Dynamo.

Mykolenko made his debut for the Eastern European Club of the 20th Century in 2017 and has not looked back since as he established himself as one of the brightest talents in the country, winning the Golden Talent of Ukraine in both 2018 and 2019.

The Ukrainian starlet was once mooted as a possible option for Arsenal as the Gunners searched for a competent backup option to Kieran Tierney, but now looks primed to make the jump to the Premier League amid growing uncertainty surrounding the future of star left-back Lucas Digne.

Toffees to part ways with Digne if a good offer is received

Unlike clubs the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool, Everton is not an outfit that is capable of splashing over €20million on a player that is not guaranteed to be the first choice in his position.

With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that Fabrizio Romano also reported that Everton star Lucas Digne could be set to jump ship along the river Mersey if the club receives a suitable offer for the French international.

Now 28-years-old and in the prime of his career, Digne has not featured for Everton in their last three fixtures (1-1-1) in the Premier League but boss Rafa Benítez has cast doubt around the Frenchman’s claims that he is ill.

With a deal for Vitaliy Mykolenko all but signed, sealed, and delivered, it would appear that the future of Lucas Digne certainly is.
