The 2025 NBA Draft continues to create shocking news, with a focus on the league. Multiple deals rocked draft night, shocking fans and analysts.
The Suns made a big move by trading former Los Angeles Lakers Center Mark Williams for the 29th pick with the Phoenix.
With the acquisition, the Suns have run two centres at the same time. Because they have already chosen Kaman Mallach on their 10th pick.
The Atlanta Hawks also traded their 13th pick, Derrick Queen, to New Orleans for their 23rd pick and a selection for next year’s first round.
Both the Suns and Hawks addressed the needs of big men’s rosters through these strategic moves.
The Portland Trail Blazers made the most amazing move of a draft night. Portland chose Hansen Yang after buying the 16th pick from the Memphis Grizzlies.
This shocked the world of basketball, as many people believed that Yang would be the pick in the second round. The mock draft of the NBA analysis was predicted by him to be 38th overall.
But according to Brett Siegel, Portland has created what one NBA front office executive calls “the wildest pick ever.”
“These jobs there are in line,” a front office member said. A Nuggets source told Jake Fisher that the Blazers chose “Chinese Jokic.”
Another important draft night trade involved the Washington Wizard and the Utah Jazz. Washington traded his 18th pick, Walter Clayton Jr., to Utah, for his 21st, 43rd and second rounder in 2031 and 2032.
Clayton Jr. became the second first round the Jazz acquired after landing Ace Bailey as his fifth pick. Both players represent promising prospects in this draft class.
The Wizard received Riley in his 21st pick selection and after selecting Guard Tre Johnson for sixth, he became the second first round.
These draft night moves show how teams actively place themselves for the future. The Suns doubled in frontcourt depths, and the Jazz has accumulated young talent through strategic trading.
Meanwhile, the Wizard added important works to complement the mixed-age roster following the Jordanpur trade.
