The first race of the UK Superbike Showdown Weekend at Alton Park required two starts.
There was a desperate scramble on the grid, but the frontrunner started out in wet, but Brooks sat in 10th place, sitting behind Leon Haslam’s brave tire gamble for 13 hours.
Storm Stacey arrived at the first corner from third, with Fraser Rogers taking over in second, leading the opening lap of the restart when Polesitter Charlie Nesbitt went in the wrong direction.
Lap 6 brought out a reduced gap when Haslam hit the front and rained.
All the while, Brooks became the oldest winner of BSB to hunt a motor racing bike and fight two 42-year-olds on their final laps.
The DAO Racing rider made the move for the Britains, then forced a reply to keep pushing the final corner, pulling out the fastest lap of the race, earning his first victory since 2023, and was also the first victory for the DAO Rusing team thanks to an inspired tire gamble.
Haslam seemed disappointed to bring Ducati home second behind Honda after a long lead, 0.358 seconds behind on the checkered flag.
With over 20 seconds of advantage over the rest of the field, Kyle Ride appears to pick up a very important podium finish in third place – the best rider on wet tires.
Ryde was briefly leading while the race was still suitable for wet tires. This is a selection chosen by title rival Bradley Ray after seeing what he chose, but the hard compound he was offering.
Lap 10 saw the fourth ride and could move Rogers ahead and claim the third, where he stayed in Yamaha’s line in nitrite competition. His accusations matched in the opposite direction, with Ray flirting in third on the opening lap, returning to ninth and losing the final place to charge Billy McConnell at Yamaha’s raceway.
Between them, Rogers made the battle better with Stacey, which continued all the way to the flag.
Tommy Bridewell finished sixth in Honda Racing UK. Max Cook took seventh place using the mid-leather, while McConnell placed eighth in the C&L Fairburn property/viewing race.
Nesbitt fell all the way back.
