Michael Jordan once shared what he had planned for life after finishing his NBA career.
Being an NBA player may look like an attractive career from outside due to the high and fame of the league’s top stars.
As far as that aspect of the NBA career is concerned, it is rarely better than what Chicago Bulls legendary Michael Jordan achieved in the 1990s.
He was paid the highest dollar for the league face. MJ won six NBA championships in his career, but by 1998 it felt like the Bulls legend wanted to live a normal life.
After winning the sixth NBA championship of his career, Jordan hanged his sneakers for the second time in his career.
He returned to the NBA for a two-year stint with the Washington Wizard, but at the time he thought MJ’s second retirement would be his final.
Obviously, fans wanted to know what Mike had planned for his life after spending the last 13 years as one of the faces of the NBA.
“When you say you’re missing something, you have to give up something, you know, and you know, I enjoyed my career,” Jordan said in an interview with ESPN.
He added:
Simply put, Jordan wanted to spend quality time with his family after getting a break from his busy schedule.
When it comes to hardwoods, there aren’t many players considered better than Jordan. However, Mike saw becoming a family fan as a “challenge.”
“I don’t know what I’m missing, but as you go through it, I know what I missed. But I got something with the inability to do those things, a particular focus or a particular, you know, devotion to my game,” Jordan continued.
“But to experience some of them, everything will be new to me. It will be a challenge. It will be fun too,” he concluded.
This was a Jordanian plan in 1998. In fact, he somehow maintained his connection with the league. First, as the owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
However, in that stint, Jordan takes on a new role. This is a special contributor to NBC’s Analyst Panel for the 2025-26 NBA season.
