The Glasgow Rangers held a positive Ibrox talk with a target of key GERS managers to replace Russell Martin.
Manager who can replace Martin in the Rangers
Sunday’s 1-1 Scottish premiership draw with Falkirk proved to be the last straw for Rangers’ Martin, who was fired that night.
GERS’ Andrew Cavenagh Chairman and Vice-Chair Paraag Marathe has since written an open letter to Ibrox supporters, telling them that “a rigorous and thoughtful recruitment process is already underway,” and the “it’s worthy” pair “and “deeply involved” have been dealing with it in order to find a new manager.
There are already many targets linked to the move to Glasgow, including former Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl, Ibrox’s “admired by advanced players.”
Another candidate currently on leave from work is Shawn Dish. The former Everton and Burnley bosses have not been working since leaving Goodison Park. He is considered to be extremely enthusiastic about moving to Glasgow.
In Europe, more names have been mentioned to Martin come in and replace. Dutch head coach Mark van Bommel has another “interested” to replace Martin, and Spanish manager Quique Setien is also on the GERS radar after leaving Beijing Guoan.
However, “fan favorites” and one of the Rangers’ top targets is former Ibrox boss Stephen Gerrard, who has had positive developments about his return to Glasgow for the former title winner.
Rangers talk positively with Stephen Gerrard
According to a TeamTalk report, the Rangers are currently making “positive progress in consultations with Gerrard” over their reunion at Ibrox.
On Monday, he said the negotiations were set to continue and that negotiations were complicated, but the ball appears to be rolling around with the 45-year-old move to Glasgow.
Playing the offensive 4-3-3 system, Gerrard averaged 2.15 points per game in 192 matches he handled the Rangers from 2018 to 2021, winning the Scottish Premiership in 2020.

His assistant at Ibrox, Gary McAllister, was also asked about his return to Gerrard and the Rangers on Monday.
“We had a great time there. We really enjoyed our time there. Stephen did an amazing job winning that 55th title.
“He’s always going to link with the Glasgow Rangers. He loved his time there. You never know what will happen.”
While the Rangers appear to be set to take the time when appointing their fourth manager in 2025 for the current international break, in the looks of things, returning to Ibrox for Gerrard is a real possibility.
