Rory McIlroy is committed to next week’s Houston Open, and is expected to be his final start before the Masters, tournament organizers announced Tuesday.
McIlroy has won the Player Championship and has lasted longer than JJ Spaun in the three-hole playoffs on Monday. He later admitted that he wanted to play in another tournament before the Masters, which will be held from April 10-13. There, long, long victory completes the world’s second career grand slam.
Valspar in Florida this week is followed by the Houston Open and the Texas Open.
“No, I think I’ll go into the Masters for three weeks (without playing), so that’s a bit too much, so I’ll play one of the events in Texas. Whether it’s Houston or San Antonio, I’m sure.”
McIlroy played the Houston Open four times, but his final appearance was in 2014.
Also in Houston’s field this year is Scotty Schaeffler, the world’s number one spot.
