Paris – Less than a year after completing his tennis career, veteran French woman Alize Cornet is making a comeback.

Cornett said in a statement broadcasted Monday from organizers of the Rouen Tournament that it will perform at the indoor clay court event next month.

“I thought you’d get rid of me, but that’s not the case yet,” Cornett said. He added that he resumed training two months ago.

Cornett retired last year after losing 7th seed Qinwen Zheng 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of the French Open.

According to organizers of the WTA 250 tournament, the 35-year-old Cornett is given a spot for Rouen’s main draw through a wild card. The event will be held from April 14th to 20th.

Cornett reached the career-high ranking of 11th place in 2009. She holds the women’s record in most consecutive Grand Slam tournaments at 69, a winning streak from the 2007 Australian Open to the 2024 French Open.

Highlights of her career include one major quarterfinal at the 2022 Australia Open, losing first-place Serena Williams in the third round at Wimbledon in 2014.
