PRIDE's Dark Secret: Rampage Jackson Exposes Rampant PED Use in MMA

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and Pride FC veteran Quinton Lampage Jackson recently shared his perspective on the fighting enemy who used performance-enhancing drugs throughout his career. Known for his impressive power and charismatic personality, Lampage Jackson competed for Pride FC from 2001 to 2006. This was a time when Japan’s promotions were well known for their lax attitude towards steroid testing.

On a recent podcast, Jackson was openly debating his experience of pride, saying, “I fought with pride for people who were present on steroids, I beat some of them and I lost.” This admission sheds light on the widespread use of PED, especially in the early days of mixed martial arts at Pride FC.

Jackson’s comments are consistent with the organization’s open policy regarding steroid use. He recalls what I saw at the rules meeting that the first thing in the paper was “not testing anabolic steroids.”

“To be honest, I don’t think steroids will help you win the battle,” said demetrious Johnson, the greatest MMA great of all time.

Rampage Jackson’s career at Pride FC was characterized by memorable battles with fighters like Wanderlei Silva. These fights are known for violence, and some speculate about the use of performance enhancers. Despite the challenge of competing against potentially strengthened opponents, Jackson built a successful career and eventually moved to the UFC, winning a light heavyweight title when he knocked out Chuck Liddell.
