The Scale Strikes Again: Yet Another ONE Championship Fighter Loses Their Title During Weigh-Ins
SHARE

Five Championship Fighters lost their titles on scale last year.

Jonathan Di Bella, Smilla Sundell, Rodtang Jitmuangnon and Superlek all surrendered their gold after failing to meet their weight or hydration requirements at some point in the last 12 months. Resian Easer can now be added to its growth list.

On Thursday, Eiser stepped on the scale ahead of one lightweight kickboxing world title defense against Alexis Nicholas in One Fight Night 30 in Bangkok. Eyerel failed three hydration tests before he was eventually stripped of £26 of his gold.

At the time of writing, it is unclear whether the fight still qualifies for the title to be brought home or whether it will require you to pull pages from the Superrek book and renegotiate the fight as a three-round catchweight.

Regian Eiser joins a long list of one Championship fighter who lost his title while measuring

The champions lose their title before they can step into the circle. It all appears to have begun when Jonathan Di Bella refuses to squeeze his weight due to the defense of the world title of straw wight kickboxing against the Prajan tribe in Friday Fight 58.

A month later, Smilla Sundell was stripped of one straw weight Muay Thai World Championship as he was unable to gain weight due to his fight with Natalia Diachkova.

Rodtan became the most prominent fighter to lose his belt on scale after weighing the scheduled title defense flyweight limit for Jacob Smith at 0.5 pounds in November. “Iron Man” was then stripped of his one Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship, ending his five-year reign with the title.

There is Superlek who then failed both weight and hydration for a title unified rematch with Nabil Anane at Japan’s 172. However, unlike Rodtan vs Smith, who is still eligible to win the title, Superrek reportedly refused to fight non-catchweight Anane in the 3-round.

Anane was to win the fight with a unanimous decision, but as a result of the Super Rek’s demands, he, as expected, did not leave the indisputable Bantamweight Muay Thai world title.

Despite all Drama 1 Championship hydration tests have caused, the promotion has given up not changing its policy by choosing to choose fighter safety above anything else.
