SAVANSANA, Ga. — Ryan McCormick didn’t enjoy much on the Corn Ferry tour this year, so he decided to keep his mouth shut and control his anger on Friday.

The Korn Ferry Tour posted a video of McCormick playing with clear tape on his mouth, explaining the unique movements.

“I haven’t been running that much on the golf course this year. I’m pretty angry and crazy,” McCormick said after the round. “So I thought I’d tried a lot, so I thought I’d go quiet. So I put the tape over my mouth.”

After opening in 1 over 73 at the Club Car Championship, he posted a 72 and was sure to miss the cut.

One reason for the extraordinary move is that McCormick said he didn’t want to create a negative experience for his playing partner.

“I wanted it to help me. I can’t say it did or not. It certainly makes you breathe. I felt like Batman, I felt like a muzzle. I mean, I’m not proud. I don’t want to create an experience for my playing partner who is not fair.

McCormick returns to the Developmental Corn Ferry Tour a year later on the 2024 PGA Tour, playing only three weekends with six starts and not finishing in the top 40.

He said he read the book and talked to people. Nothing seems to work.

“I ran out of ideas and thought of tape a few weeks ago,” McCormick said. “So unfortunately, it’s back to it today.”
