Newcastle is expected to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer, and it appears that new targets have recently emerged for sports director Paul Mitchell, who will become a busy person during the transfer period.

Newcastle has had a great season so far, especially after winning the Carabao Cup, but their goalkeeping situation has been questionable. Nick Pope has gloves, but he has moments of struggle and his lack of ability with the ball at his feet is also frustrating. Martin Dubravka also had a chance, but he couldn’t beat Eddie Howe.

And it’s Howe who settles for him and Mitchell into a new target in the position, that’s how Newcastle is pushing for a new goalkeeper.

As reported by Givemesport, Newcastle has identified Aaron Ramsdale as a target for the summer transfer window, and Southampton is now considered to be kicked out of the Premier League, so it could potentially be more advantageous for the deals that follow the Champions League.

Ramsdale includes a demobilization release clause included in the Southampton deal he signed last summer following his move from Arsenal, and is reportedly worth £25 million. That would likely mean Newcastle has little trouble with paying, but they may need to be wary of interest from West Ham, who is also said to be considering England International’s summer move.

Ramsdale has been difficult for several years in his career, but now he has three Premier League relegations on his resume (Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Southampton). Nevertheless, he wants to remain in the top division of English football, and Newcastle can give him the opportunity to do so.
